The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud debuted in April 1955 and has frequently been referred to as one of the most opulent automobiles to come out of Crewe. Similar to earlier models, the RR Silver Cloud’s body was made of steel and mounted on a distinct but significantly strengthened chassis. The straight six engine, with a capacity of 4.9 liters, was initially used to provide power to these models and remained in production until the introduction of the Series Two cars in 1959. The Silver Cloud III replaced the Series Two models in 1962. They were superbly refined and silent when you drove them. This update included twin headlamps, a shortened radiator grille that gave the front of the car a lower bonnet line, and smaller over-riders.
Convertible and long wheelbase versions of the standard steel saloons were also available, along with coachbuilt variants like the ‘Flying Spur’ that came in two- and four-door coachwork.
