About the Bentley Mulsanne
The Bentley Mulsanne was unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August 2009 and entered production in 2010, replacing the Bentley Arnage as Bentley's flagship saloon. Named after the legendary Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans — where Bentley won five consecutive 24-hour races in the 1920s — the Mulsanne represented Bentley's first truly independent flagship, developed entirely without shared architecture with Rolls-Royce for the first time in over five decades.
At the heart of every Mulsanne was the legendary 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V8 — an engine architecture first developed at Crewe in 1959 and continuously refined across six decades of production. In Mulsanne specification the engine produced 505 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque, delivering effortless performance with a refinement that no turbocharged engine of any size could match. The Mulsanne Speed, introduced in 2014, raised power to 537 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque — making it one of the most torque-rich production saloons ever built.
The Mulsanne was produced in three body variants across its decade-long production run. The standard Mulsanne offered the definitive combination of performance and formal luxury. The Mulsanne Speed added enhanced performance credentials with unique styling details and a firmer suspension tune. The Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase, introduced in 2016, stretched the wheelbase by 250mm to create a rear cabin rivaling the finest limousines — with reclining rear seats, folding tables and a level of hand-finished detail unmatched by any contemporary production car.
Production of the Mulsanne ended in 2020, marking the end of the 6.75-liter V8 engine's extraordinary 61-year production run. The final Mulsanne — chassis number 20001 — was the last car to leave Crewe powered by this engine, closing a chapter in British automotive engineering history.
