What Engine Does the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Have?
The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I and Bentley S1 (1955–1959) use a 4.9 litre inline six-cylinder engine — the final development of the long-running post-war straight-six that also powered the Silver Dawn and Bentley MkVI. The Silver Cloud II, Silver Cloud III, Bentley S2 and Bentley S3 (1959–1966) introduced a completely new all-aluminium 6.23 litre V8 engine. This V8 was a significant advance — lighter, more powerful and with considerably more torque than the straight-six it replaced. Engine parts are entirely different between the two engine families and are not interchangeable. Always confirm your model, chassis number and engine type before ordering any engine component.

We stock the genuine oil filter kit (RH10003) at $110, covering Rolls-Royce and Bentley models from 1955 to 1977 including the Silver Cloud, S Series, Silver Shadow and T Series. Big end bearings are a critical engine rebuild component — worn big end bearings present as a heavy knocking noise from the lower engine under load, most noticeable at low RPM. We stock standard and undersize big end bearings and main bearings for both the straight-six and V8 engines.
