About the 2018–Present Bentley Continental GT & Flying Spur
The third-generation Bentley Continental GT was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017 and entered production in 2018, marking the most significant engineering overhaul in the Continental's history. Built on the Volkswagen Group's MSB platform — shared with the Porsche Panamera but developed to an entirely different specification — the new Continental GT was lighter, stiffer and more dynamically capable than its predecessor while delivering a significant improvement in refinement and technology.
Two engine variants are available across the 2018–present range. The 6.0-liter W12 TSI produces 626 horsepower in standard Continental GT specification and 659 horsepower in the Continental GT Speed — making the Speed one of the most powerful Bentley production cars ever built. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 542 horsepower and offers a more driver-focused character with the added benefit of cylinder deactivation for improved efficiency. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission — replacing the previous generation's torque converter automatic — delivering sharper, faster gear changes than any previous Bentley.
The Bentley Continental GTC convertible arrived in 2019, followed by the entirely new Flying Spur saloon — the first Flying Spur to share the MSB platform with the Continental GT. The Flying Spur introduced all-wheel steering as standard, making it the most dynamically capable four-door Bentley ever produced. A Bentley Continental GT Hybrid and Flying Spur Hybrid joined the range from 2022, combining a turbocharged V6 with an electric motor for a total output of 449 horsepower and meaningful electric-only capability.
Key differences from the previous generation that affect parts compatibility include the Matrix LED headlight system, the dual-clutch transmission, the 48-volt active roll control system, revised brake specifications and the MSB platform suspension geometry. Many parts are not interchangeable between the third-generation cars and the 2004–2017 Continental — always confirm your model year before ordering.
