What Engine Does the Rolls-Royce Phantom Have?

The Rolls-Royce Phantom VII (2003–2017) uses a 6.75-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine producing 453 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. This engine was developed specifically for the Goodwood-era Phantom and is entirely unique to Rolls-Royce — it is not shared with any BMW model despite BMW's ownership of the brand. The Phantom VIII (2017–present) upgraded to a twin-turbocharged version of the same 6.75-litre V12, now producing 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. The addition of twin turbochargers on the Phantom VIII dramatically improves low-speed torque delivery while maintaining the same near-silent character. The engine in both generations uses an all-aluminium construction and is hand-assembled at Goodwood. There is no V8, V16 or Toyota engine in any Phantom VII or Phantom VIII — the 6.75-litre V12 is the only powerplant used across the entire modern Phantom range.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Engine Specs — Phantom VII vs Phantom VIII

The Phantom VII V12 displaces 6,749cc, produces 453hp at 5,350rpm and 531 lb-ft of torque from 3,500rpm, with a governed top speed of 149mph and 0-60mph in approximately 5.7 seconds. The Phantom VIII twin-turbo V12 uses the same 6,749cc displacement but produces 563hp and 664 lb-ft of torque available from just 1,700rpm — allowing the 5,600lb car to reach 60mph in 4.8 seconds. The Phantom VIII's engine oil capacity is approximately 8.5 litres. Always confirm your exact specification and model year with your VIN when sourcing engine parts — the naturally aspirated Phantom VII and twin-turbocharged Phantom VIII use different engine components.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Front Engine Vibration Damper

We stock the genuine Rolls-Royce Phantom front engine vibration damper (11237509481) at $972. The vibration damper is mounted to the front of the crankshaft and absorbs torsional vibration from the V12 engine — this is a critical component for the Phantom's near-silent operation. A worn or failed vibration damper presents as increased vibration felt through the steering wheel or cabin at idle, or a rumbling noise from the front of the engine at low revs. We can also source engine mounts, subframe mounts, serpentine belts, timing components and all engine gaskets for both Phantom VII and Phantom VIII.
